Potty Poetry

Poetry may sound like an unusual choice for reluctant readers but this poetry series is different from others on the market. Published by King's England Press, the poems are full of the type of humour that appeals to boys - knickers, loos, spots and people falling over.

The series began when Gez Walsh decided to write a book to encourage his dyslexic son to read. That first book was The Spot on my Bum - a title guaranteed to attract children's attention. Other titles are equally eye-catching and so are the poems inside. They are definitely not in the best possible taste but that's part of their appeal.

The poetry books were like lollipops - they kept sneaking off and reading them in groups. Many quite reluctant readers wanted to read poems from them out loud!
