Ann Pilling
Ann Pilling was born in 1944 and educated in industrial Lancashire where many of her books are set. She read English at London University where she wrote a thesis on the fiction of C S Lewis. She became a full-time writer in 1979 but before this taught English in Buckinghamshire. She is married with two sons, and lives in Oxford. Apart from books she enjoys singing, listening to music, gardening, cooking and walking, especially in the Yorkshire Dales. In addition to her many children's books, she has published two novels and several short stories.
She has served on the judging panel for the Guardian Children's Fiction Award and as Publications Officer for the Federation of Children's Book Groups. She reviews books in addition to writing them and her work is anthologised and broadcast. She had made radio and TV appearances both as a children's writer and as a practising Christian.
